Officers were called around 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, to investigate a single vehicle crash in the area of Route 1 and Janna Lee Avenue in Mount Vernon, which left one person with serious injuries.

According to a spokesperson from the Fairfax County Police Department, the driver - identified only as an adult man - was rushed to the hospital by paramedics in life-threatening condition.

The initial investigation determined that excessive speed was a factor in the crash.
